What You Need To Know
On November 23, Ambriola Company, a Boar's Head supplier, issued a Class I recall of Boar's Head Grated Pecorino Romano and Boar's Head Pecorino Romano Cheese. Like other recent Boar's Head recalls, this one is due to the potential presence of listeria monocytogenes.
We know this Boar's Head Pecorino Romano was distributed to Tops Markets and Big Y grocery stores. Tops has locations in New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. Big Y grocery stores are located in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
In the summer of 2024, Boar's Head recalled roughly seven million pounds of deli meat after a listeria outbreak that became one of the deadliest in the past decade. The company's Virginia plant was temporarily closed at the time, but that event appears to be unrelated to the current recall.
Eating food that's contaminated with listeria puts people at risk for a serious infection known as listeriosis. For healthy people, symptoms are often milder, but can include fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. This infection is riskier for older adults, young kids, and people with weakened immune systems. If you suspect you've developed symptoms that resemble those of a listeriosis infection, consult your healthcare provider immediately.)
