Check Your Fridge—Nearly 1.6 Million Dozen Eggs Were Just Recalled for Salmonella

The eggs were sold in Kroger stores and other retailers in several Southern states.

While the FDA investigates the cyclospora outbreaks, there’s another recall associated with an even more dangerous foodborne illness—Salmonella. The FDA just announced a major recall impacting nearly 1.6 million dozen eggs sold at several retailers (including Kroger and Brookshire’s) that may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.

The eggs, produced by Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. and sold under a variety of brand names, all have best by/sell by dates between July 20 and August 17, 2026, identifying codes of P-1950 or 840962, and Julian Date Ranges of 157 to 184. They were sold between June 6, 2026, and July 3, 2026, in the following states: Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi. They were distributed to Kroger stores, Brookshire Grocery stores, small retail stores, and foodservice companies.

What to Do If You Have the Recalled Eggs

If you have the recalled eggs, you should not eat them. Thoroughly clean the area where the eggs were stored. You can return the eggs to the store for a full refund. What Is Salmonella?

Salmonella Enteritidis is a potentially dangerous bacteria that can be found in some foods. It can cause serious and even deadly infections in people. (So far, no illnesses have been reported in conjunction with this recall.)

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain—and the potential to develop a severe infection in the bloodstream. It’s an especially dangerous foodborne illness for people with weakened immune systems, including young children, elderly individuals, and the immunocompromised.
